A Territory Marked by Vines
Champlitte is a village where vines are deeply rooted. Since the Middle Ages, part of the wine-growing land depended on both the Abbey of Theuley and the Commandery of La Romagne, attesting to the antiquity and historical value of this cultivation on our hillsides. Benefiting from favorable exposures, suitable soils and a conducive microclimate, viticulture has long structured the landscape, economy and daily life of the commune. At the end of the 19th century, Champlitte had nearly 500 hectares of vines, forming a dense and vibrant wine-growing landscape.
The Viticultural Decline
The end of the 19th century brought a brutal halt: the arrival of phylloxera wiped out much of the vineyard. As elsewhere, production shrank and the hillsides were gradually abandoned. Deprived of their main resource, many families moved away, some even trying their luck in Mexico. For nearly a century, the vines gave way to fallow land.
The Vineyard Renaissance
Viticulture was reborn in Champlitte at the end of the 20th century: from the 1970s, the commune was among the first in Haute-Saône to attempt commercial replanting, driven by the Saint-Vincent festival and strong local commitment. In this same momentum, in 1985, Pascal Henriot began replanting vines organically on former plots. Hectare after hectare, he prepared the soils, chose suitable grape varieties and gradually put the vine back at the heart of the territory. The vineyard thus regained life, identity and quality production.
Family Transmission
Today, Domaine Henriot carries this story forward. After Pascal's pioneering commitment, the family transmission continues: in 2024, Orane Henriot and her husband Renaud Piralla took over the estate with the ambition of combining respect for the terroir with contemporary expectations. Their work is built around attentive soil stewardship, meticulous vinifications and the valorization of the existing parcels. The estate aims to assert its place as a lasting player in the local wine revival, faithful to the site's history and oriented toward the future.
